Limited Edition Somme Memorial Shirt

Leyton Orient are proud to unveil a limited-edition Somme memorial shirt to commemorate the club’s contribution in the Great War.

The shirt is a replica of the Clapton Orient kit at the time of the outbreak of the First World War.

The limited-edition shirt will be worn for one fixture only; when Orient travel to Edinburgh to face Hearts of Midlothian for a special pre-season friendly on Saturday 13^th July 2024.

A small number of shirts will be made available for purchase by supporters, with each shirt being wrapped in a commemorative box and coming with a certificate of authenticity.

The white jersey features the Leyton Orient O's Somme Memorial Fund logo, with the badge incorporating the eye-catching red chevron.

The logo itself is full of detail. ‘The Die Hards’ - the historic nickname of the Middlesex regiment, sits at its centre inscribed on a contemporary football which also has the crown of King George V proudly affixed, with the names of W Jonas, R McFadden and G Scott – the three Orient players who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Battle of The Somme – circling around it. In addition, the concise wording 'SOMME 1916' signifying the O's major involvement in the battle is also prominantly displayed.

The logo also includes Clapton Orient Football Club at its summit, with the names of the Footballers’ Battalion and the 17th Bn Middlesex Regiment at its foot.

Kit manufacturer Puma have kindly whited out its own logo on both sleeves and on the shirt’s centre to bring the limited-edition shirt closer to its original design.
